Description
Bush (Alb. bush/bushi; also bozh/bozhi) is a swamp being of Albanian folk belief who inhabits ponds and marshes in the form of a steer and is said to cause rain by bellowing. Folk say the weather turned out as the bush wanted — si deshi bushi, bëri koha. In Shkodra he is known as bushonja; in Mat the bozh is used to frighten children (“Sleep or the bozh will devour you!” / fli, se të ha bozhi!). He is not the same figure as Bushtra, nor the lexical bushter/bushtër fire-kuçedra gloss under Kulshedra; swamp ecology overlaps lightly with Laurë without merge.
