Northern personification of the sea wind / whirlwind. Elsie 2001 p. 249 s.v. Talas: Alb. talas, def. talasi, from Turk. talaz ‘foaming wave, billow, whirlwind,’ ultimately Gk. θάλασσα ‘sea’; personification of the sea wind among northern Albanians (Çabej 1935; Stadtmüller 1954; Lambertz 1973:504).
