Story paths

Description

Elsie 2001 p. 101 s.v. Gërshetëza / Gërzheta: long-haired comb-at-bank water nymph; aliases floçka, ksheta/kshetëza, nuse e ujërave; protects lakes/rivers. Fishta’s “Të Bukurat e Detit” for Floçka is an epithet collision, not identity with Sea Beauty. Cuca e Liqenit / Nusja Shapulicë sit as soft provisional names in the same water field. Water-sense zana e ujit points here; martial mountain zana stays on its own page. Laure, the ugly river hag, is a related contrast. Secondary prose: Instituti i Folklorit Gërzheta capture/besa.

Lead story

At the river stones a long braid moves before the face does. Floçkë — Gërshetëza, Ksheta, nuse e ujërave — combs where the water keeps its own law. Lakes and rivers have a guardian who is beauty and threshold, not a mountain zana in armor and not the Tomor sister who keeps Earthly Beauty by day. Men who tell of capture and besa know her as Gërzheta in the folklore institute’s prose; men who sing Fishta may call water beauties by a sea name that belongs to another page. The comb stays distinct from the Beauty triad. Here the story is hair, bank, and water that remembers who protects it.
