Linked stories
Same dragon-slaying / princess-saving legend hung on Saint George by Christians and on Sari Salltëk by Muslims.
Closed-eye serpent ages unseen ~50y to bollar (milk/venom), ~50y to ershaj (heart-eater), ~100y to storm kulshedra; St George eye-day devouring; Kastrati wren spoils the climb.
- Bolla opens eyes on ShëngjergjiRecorded
Cursed bollë blind except George’s feast; lids part; first human seen is eaten; eyes shut again. Calendar hinge into aging chain.
If thunder falls between the two St George calendar poles, folk say no snakes that summer; pairs bolla eye-opening date only.
Tirta 2004:111–117 (Kreu V): beside Zana stands a masculine mountain/forest figure — Njeriu i Mirë / Njeriu i Shenjtë / Njeriu Jeshil, also Shën Mërtiri (Martin), Hazreti/Hezri, Gjindi. Two functions: (1) master of wolves (feeds, directs, punishes; can shut their mouths); (2) holy shepherd of flocks. Saint George sometimes absorbs wolf/flock attributes. Syncretism banner required; not Zeus/Pan cosplay. Soft pair with Zana as nature pair — kept separate.
- Shëngjergji spring hinge (May 6 / flija belt)Reconstructed
Eastern-calendar George (6 May) densifies in Kosova/Macedonia: flija on hot coals, nettles/water strength (Podujeva/Presheva), Sharr flower–herb baths with river-return of bath water. calendar feast owns the hinge; bolla eye-opening is date-only cross-link.
- Sari Salltëk — Krujë / Pashtrik / Ali DayReconstructed
Living mountain sacral parallel to the Tomorr set. Pashtrik graves; Aligjyni midsummer rain hopes; noon flip Ali→Elias. Dragon-deed legend telling shared with Shën Gjergji; kulshedra physiology stays on its own page.
- Dheu me barrë — pregnant earth spring taboosReconstructed
Spring soil spoken as pregnant; plough/vegetation taboos in festival window; foundation blood/coin/seed payments; burial coin to pay the Earth. Not the same as E. Bukura e Dheut tale queen.
- ShënePremte / Saint Veneranda overlayReconstructed
Christian onomastics absorb Prende: ShënePremte, Saint Veneranda, Petka; Cordignano dense dedications; Kurbin shared Christian–Muslim cure pilgrimage. Saint box ring-fenced — does not erase dawn/Friday cult.
- Verëza / Buzmi calendar fires strengthen DielliReconstructed
Winter solstice Nata e Buzmit and spring Dita e Verës / Verëza kindle fires especially before sunrise so the Sun takes strength. Enji/zjarr is the fire center; Dielli is the solar spine.
- Shëngjergji spring sacral hingeReconstructed
23 Apr / 6 May opens warm half-year: growth rites for children, animals, crops; water/flower/herd customs; Besh–Dajti cave note. calendar feast not agriculture god. Soft links dielli/enji/dheu/vitore.
- Shëngjergji rites — Tetova / SharrReconstructed
Eastern calendar May window: flower–herb baths, river-return of bath water, growth rites for children and flocks. Densest recorded NMK sacral calendar kernel already on shengjergji.
