Description

Tosk fate fairies (e mira / të mirat): three usually beneficent beings who appear on the third day after birth to determine a child’s destiny. Elsie keeps an entry distinct from Fatí while noting near-identity — also called zonja të jashtime (“ladies from outside”) and të tri gratë (“the three women”); blessings are said always fulfilled; often ride butterfly wings; enter dreams to learn cares and intervene, so people invoke them for aid. Lead story

The house keeps the door ajar. Dogs are out of the yard. On the table: honey, three almonds, three pieces of bread—set for guests who do not knock. Toward the third night the cradle is quiet enough that the living hold their breath. Three women come without footprints—të mirat, the good ones, sometimes named only as the ladies from outside. They do not argue with the midwife or the kin feast; they speak the child’s portion and leave. What they bless is said to stand. Later, when care will not sleep, folk say the same three may ride a dream the way they ride butterfly light—hear the knot, loosen it, go. No one paints their faces for strangers. The offering is for the night they write fate; the dream is for the nights after.
